Spaceship has just hit 10 million domains under management in just over 3 years of business, the fastest a registrar has ever hit that milestone. That’s double the 5 million reached just under a year ago. Another amazing milestone we could not have achieved without everyone who’s helped make Spaceship the quickest-growing web services company.
Several key products continually contribute to this growth. There’s Alf, our AI assistant, that can help with buying, selling, and managing domains and digital products on Spaceship, and even help you build an entire website. Meanwhile, SellerHub continues to grow at lightning speed, cementing itself as the ‘go-to’ place to buy and sell domains.
Whatever attracted you to the Spaceship platform, we’re grateful you’re here. Now let’s dig into the data and see how it fits in with general web trends in 2026. If you've ever wondered what the most expensive domain sold on SellerHub went for, or how many domains a customer owns on average, it's all here.
1. Number of domains transferred from other providers vs new registrations on Spaceship
New registrations continue to make up the majority of domain registrations, with transfers now accounting for 11%. This is a sizable chunk that displays Spaceship’s appeal to anyone wanting to try something new. Most domain transfers come from Sav.com, Dynadot, and GoDaddy. Among the top 7 TLDs transferred in — .com, .org, .net, .io, .co, .ai, .xyz — customers have been able to save up to 59% by transferring to Spaceship instead of renewing with their previous registrar (not including any promotional codes for renewals).

2. Percentage of .com registrations vs all other TLD registrations
.com still accounts for 17% of all TLD registrations. This may seem like a small percentage, but as we break down the stats further, it’s clear that this classic domain suffix continued to dominate, which reflects wider domain market trends.

3. Top 20 TLDs registered with Spaceship (including bulk purchases)
.com, .shop and .top make up the top three in the leaderboard, with .com the number one by a long distance with close to 2 million domains.

4. Top 5 countries registering domains with Spaceship (where most customers who own domains come from)

The United States leads as usual, now followed by China. Germany and Pakistan are new additions to the list.
5. Top 10 gTLDs registered with Spaceship (including bulk purchases)
Next are generic TLDs, and .com yet again proves itself the go-to choice, making up 20% of the top ten. Compared to our previous report, .shop retained its number two spot in terms of popularity to take second place with 19% of overall purchases. Classic TLDs like .org, and .info remain, while new additions such as .top, .skin, and .buzz show that a subset of buyers is still interested in trying something fresh and different when choosing a domain.
TLD | Domains | %gTLD Total |
|---|---|---|
com | 1,930,835 | 20% |
shop | 1,815,616 | 19% |
top | 727,195 | 8% |
xyz | 687,124 | 7% |
info | 358,722 | 4% |
org | 250,907 | 3% |
skin | 218,004 | 2% |
cfd | 193,081 | 2% |
sbs | 185,142 | 2% |
buzz | 168,784 | 2% |
6. Top 10 ccTLDs registered with Spaceship (including bulk purchases)
Unlike gTLDs, no one country-code TLD completely dominates the top 10. As it did when Spaceship reached 5 million domains under management, .my leads the way with 24%, with .cc in second spot with 15%.
As is always the case, while these are technically country-affiliated TLDs, many registrants are not located in these areas. Though associated with the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, .cc is a popular choice for businesses and organizations that want an alternative to .com, which is similarly the case for .co. Meanwhile, number eight on the list, .ai is an obvious choice for artificial intelligence products and enthusiasts, though it’s actually related to Anguilla, a small Caribbean island.
TLD | Domains | %ccTLD Total |
|---|---|---|
my | 385,127 | 24% |
cc | 240,508 | 15% |
co | 227,104 | 14% |
us | 169,434 | 11% |
eu | 123,285 | 8% |
co.uk | 98,483 | 6% |
de | 77,595 | 5% |
ai | 47,747 | 3% |
in | 45,648 | 3% |
io | 41,281 | 3% |
7. Top 5 fastest-growing TLDs
Once more .com tops the list at 24%, while .shop places second at 15%, reflecting some of the domain trends we’ve already seen in this report. .top, .xyz, and .my round out the top 5. The inclusion of .my is especially interesting as it’s no longer in the top ten ccTLDs registered. This suggests a high retention rate from those who registered it.
8. SellerHub
Since the previous domain report, our domain marketplace SellerHub, has nearly 6 million domains listed. Lease-to-own (LTO) options have also been added to the platform and are available for nearly a third of all listings, accounting for almost 6% of all domain sales.
As for the most expensive domain sales, a 1-word .com TLD remains the leader here at a whopping $2 million. The list consists of .com and .ai domains, and one .org domain. .com is in the lead this time around at 7 domains, while two .ai domains have made the list.

9. AI domains
The percentage of .ai registrations has stayed largely the same since the previous report. This is in keeping with wider domain industry trends where .com still registrations far outnumber .ai. The US still owns the most .ai domains, but China is catching up, overtaking India for second place. Together, the US and China make up half of all .ai registrations.

10. Analyzing the domains you’re registering
One standout domain name trend is that 39.2% of all registrations feature a number. This is often done because someone’s preferred name is already taken, so adding a number can get you something close to the domain you want. This is also the case with using hyphens.

11. How many domains does the average customer own?
From our 10 million domains under management, while the average customer owns 19.38 domains, the median customer actually owns just one domain. Digging deeper, 90% of customers own 7 or fewer domains, while the largest owner has a whopping 274,826 domains. This data suggests that Spaceship has wide appeal for individuals and small businesses, as well as domain industry experts and large-scale investors.
12. Customer domain portfolio size
Expanding on the previous point that the majority of customers are low holders, 63.4% only own 1 domain, while 22.2% own 2-4 domains. So around 85% have 4 or fewer domains. Interestingly, this only accounts for 6.2% of all active domains. The bulk of active domains can be attributed to the 0.2% of customers who own more than a thousand domains each. These domains account for 67% of all active domains. Not to mention the 8 customers who collectively own over 1.2 million domains, making up 12.9% of all active domains. All this shows that Spaceship is a trusted platform to manage extensive portfolios.
13. Premium domains
The biggest takeaway here is that premium domain owners make up a notable portion of Spaceship’s overall active customers, with the majority keeping the domains active.
