To register .de top-level domains (TLDs), you must agree to the terms of the .de registration terms and conditions.
It is possible for individuals or institutions outside Germany to register .de domains. However, DENIC (.de Registry) might require an authorized representative in Germany to receive official or court documents in the event of any legal issues.
Such details must be provided within two weeks of a corresponding request by DENIC. For more information, please refer to DENIC Domain Terms and Conditions, §3 (4).
Domains registered under the .de extension are subject to specific regulations regarding nameservers. A minimum of 2 authoritative independent DNS servers are required. It means that the IP addresses of each nameserver should differ by at least one number in any octet. Also, at least one of them must be connected via IPv4.
For example:
192.0.2.1 and 192.0.2.2 pair is valid (IPs differ in 1 digit here);
192.0.2.1 and 2001:db8:85a3::8a2e:370:7334 pair is also valid.
You can use DENIC's NAST tool to check whether the DNS you want to use is acceptable for updates or registration.
DENIC policies related to Germany’s implementation of the EU NIS 2 Directive
We are required to verify the email addresses associated with .de domains. If the Registrant email address is not verified, your .de domain may be subject to suspension and further cancellation by DENIC.
During the registration, transfer, or update of a .de domain, DENIC may assess whether the Registrant’s name and address are valid and accurate as part of a risk assessment process. If the provided contact details are considered potentially inaccurate, additional verification may be required.
In such cases, we will contact you using the Registrant email address and may request documentation to confirm the Registrant’s name and address. If the Registrant’s details cannot be verified, your .de domain may be subject to suspension and further cancellation by DENIC.
If the Registrant details raise serious concerns, DENIC may immediately suspend the domain following its risk assessment and will only lift the suspension once the verification process has been successfully completed.
