Frequently asked questions
With Spaceship, you can find everything you need to get your web project off the ground. For domains, hosting, email, and various other web services, Spaceship has it all. Spaceship VPS now brings you the chance to get more power, flexibility, and control over your hosting plan for an affordable price.
A Virtual Machine (VM) or virtual private server (VPS) is a server within a server. Virtualization technology makes it possible to divide the server’s resources so it can be used by multiple users, who each have operating systems and applications with more independence and control.
Spaceship VPS’s specifications:

  • CPU: AMD EPYC 7742 (2.25 GHz base/3.4 GHz boost), a high-performance processor. Each Virtual Machine offers 1-8 virtual cores, depending on the plan.
  • RAM: DDR4-3200 ECC Reg
  • Storage: NVMe SSD
  • Network speed: Up to 1 Gbps
Please note that these specifications are always subject to change due to hardware upgrades that guarantee optimal performance.
Spaceship aims to offer the use of data centers around the globe so you can get closer to your customers. Right now we have a data center in Phoenix, US, and Singapore, Asia for our VPS, but we plan to expand in the future.
For now, we don’t offer migration assistance from Web Hosting to Spaceship Cloud Hosting.
You can easily terminate your VPS in VPS Manager by going to your VPS panel and choosing the three-dot button on the right-hand side. This will give you the option to terminate your server.
You can keep up to date on all the new features and functionality by following our Spaceship VPS Updates.
The only thing to remember is that the SMTP port 25 will be closed by default for outgoing connections, to prevent spam and other disruptive activities.

But you can still use:

  • SMTP relay services that use different ports.
  • Third-party email services, such as Spacemail.
  • Mail broadcasters, like Mailchimp or SendGrid.

Alternatively, you can also use VPS Mail Bridge to open port 25, set up a PTR record and send emails directly from your VPS. You’ll need to:

  • Provide a PTR hostname (e.g., mail.example.com).
  • Create an A record for that hostname pointing to your VPS IP.
  • Add an SPF record (we also recommend adding DKIM and DMARC records).
  • Configure a mail server (e.g., Postfix, Exim, and Sendmail).

Note: Mail Service doesn’t include mailbox hosting or a managed mail server.
  • What’s the difference between Pay-as-you-go and Prepaid plans?

With Pay-as-you-go, you’re charged monthly for the hours your Spaceship VPS is running. This is ideal for when you need to scale up and down without a long commitment.

With Prepaid, you pay a fixed price in advance for the term you choose (monthly, quarterly, yearly). This is ideal for always-on projects that benefit from a predictable, subscription-based model, just like a traditional web hosting plan.

Both options use the same cloud infrastructure — choose Pay-as-you-go for flexibility, or Prepaid if you prefer a set price in advance.

  • What do I need to know about Spaceship Cloud’s Pay-as-you-go billing?
  • How will I be charged?

Our VPS plans have monthly billing cycles with post-payment, so you will pay for the previous month, on an hourly basis. This means you will only pay for the time you use your VPS — until it’s terminated.

  • If I use my VPS for less than a month, will I be charged for the whole month?

In any given month, you will only pay for the days that you use your virtual server for. This means you won’t be billed for the hours when you don’t have a server.

  • Will I be charged when I enter my credit card?

If you use a credit card to pay for Spaceship Cloud products, you will be billed monthly and not immediately.

  • Why am I still billed when my Spaceship VPS is switched off?

When your VPS is switched off you are still billed because it’s still active and the resources are reserved for your use. However, if you terminate your VPS then you will not be billed for it.

  • Can I be notified if my VPS exceeds a payment threshold?

We do not currently have a system to let you know when you have exceeded the Virtual Machine usage within the limits of your payment plan. However, we intend to make this possible in the near future, so keep checking our Spaceship VPS Updates.

  • How can I remove my card from the account?

You can remove your card from your Spaceship account, but remember you must always have at least one valid payment method to enable a pay-as-you-go subscription.

Go to Payment Methods, where you can delete your card details manually. You can also go to Subscription Manager to ensure that your subscriptions don’t auto-renew.

  • Can I be refunded for resources I don’t use?

Our billing is post-paid, so you’re only billed for the resources after you use them. This means a refund for unused resources won’t be needed.

Disclaimers

Spaceship VPS supports both Pay-as-you-go and Prepaid billing options. VPSs with Prepaid billing option are charged upfront at a fixed rate, while VPSs with Pay-as-you-go option are billed at the end of the monthly billing cycle, with charges calculated hourly. The use of Spaceship VPS should align with our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).

* For Pay-as-you-go, the price depends on the number of hours used during the billing cycle. Note that the number of billable hours varies every month depending on the number of days. For months with 30 days, there are 720 hours.
