How to set up a DKIM record for Spacemail?

DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) is a method used to verify that the content of emails is trustworthy, meaning that it hasn’t been changed since the email left the initial mail server.  Emails signed with DKIM appear more legitimate to recipients and are less likely to end up in the junk or spam folders.

If your domain name is configured to use Spaceship nameservers (launch1.spaceship.net and launch2.spaceship.net), the DKIM record will be automatically set up on the domain once you unbox your Spacemail subscription.

However, if your domain uses third-party nameservers, you'll need to manually set up the DKIM record with your DNS provider after unboxing your Spacemail subscription.

To get the DKIM record Value, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Spaceship account.

  2. In Launchpad navigate to Advanced DNS.

  3. Locate the necessary domain name associated with Spacemail and click the arrow next to it.

  4. Scroll down to the Inactive records section, click the arrow to expand it, and the find Spacemail DNS records.

  5. Find the TXT record that starts with "v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=MIIBIjANB...". Copy this record and add it to the DNS zone for your domain with the host name spacemail._domainkey.

Once the record is configured, it can take a few hours to start working properly.

NOTE: DKIM should be configured together with SPF and DMARC records as part of a complete email authentication setup. Modern email providers increasingly rely on all three authentication methods to validate sender legitimacy and improve email deliverability.
