The .my domain is a top-level domain (TLD) originally assigned to Malaysia that can now be registered by individuals and businesses worldwide. However, the registry of this TLD has set some rules and restrictions.
Please note that the registry restricted all registrations of .my domains by entities or individuals in Israel.
Certain words or phrases are forbidden for .my domains. The registry has a list of sensitive and reserved names:
Sensitive names
Words that may be considered scandalous, obscene, offensive, indecent, and/or contrary to Malaysian public norms (words that are associated with sex, gambling, profanity, racial slurs, and terrorism).
Reserved names
Specific keywords forbidden by the registry that can’t be used when registering a domain at Spaceship:
Country names (full country names, like australia.my, are not permitted. But combinations, like australiacoffee.my, are allowed).
Malaysian state names (e.g., Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Malacca).
Malaysian government terms (e.g., gov, government, prime minister, parliament).
Royal names relating to the Malaysian royal family (e.g., king, Agong, sultan, raja, royal, prince).
Religious names (e.g., Islam, Buddha, Hindu, Christianity).
Bank or finance company terms (e.g., bank, insurance, takaful, finance, financial, forex).
Geographical names (e.g., who, nato, un).
Domain names with restricted/sensitive keywords are manually approved by the Malaysian registry. The review period may take several business days from the initial order date. Also, be aware of false-positive cases when a prohibited keyword is part of a word/phrase in your domain (e.g., alphabet.my). These domains will undergo manual review, too.
