How to get a premium domain

Look at any premium domain. You're looking at the top tier of domains.

Premium domains are usually made of dictionary words and common phrases. They're mostly short. They're easy to remember. And they often live on popular extensions.

Registration usually costs more than a standard domain, and some premiums cost more to renew and transfer too. You'll see the renewal price when you search and again at checkout.

This is how you get one

  1. Search. Enter the name you want in Domain search. If it's premium, you'll see a premium tag next to it.

  2. Check the price. Look at the registration price and the renewal price. Both show in your results and again at checkout.

  3. Check out. Pay at checkout. What happens next depends on where the domain comes from.

Premium domains come from two sources

Registries and existing owners. Same domain tier. Different price, different process.

A registry is the organisation that runs a domain extension, like .com or .net. Registries pick their premium catalogue based on potential value, then release those names to the market.

Owners sell their premium domains on the aftermarket, where people resell domains they already own. At Spaceship, that's SellerHub. Owners register or buy domains once the registry releases them, then sell them on to other buyers.

Payment is usually one price, paid once. Sellers can also offer lease-to-own, where you pay the seller in multiple payments.

Renewals depend on where the domain comes from

Aftermarket domains renew at the regular price. See the regular price for your extension.

Registry premiums can renew at a different price from the regular one. The final renewal price shows at checkout.

This is what happens after you buy

Registry premiums land in your account right away. Aftermarket domains take longer because a seller is involved. Here's how it runs:

  1. Booked. We book the domain through SellerHub. Validating the purchase can take 24-72 hours. We may contact you, so keep an eye on your inbox.

  2. Confirmed. Once the purchase is confirmed, our support team works with the seller to deliver the domain to us.

  3. Delivered. Speed depends on the seller's registrar. If it supports fast transfer, the domain lands in your account within several hours of validation. If it doesn't, the seller needs up to 10 business days to prepare it, then the transfer takes up to 5 days.

We'll email you when the domain arrives.

A new registration has to wait 60 days

A domain registered less than 60 days ago has to wait. We can only deliver it once the 60 days are up, an ICANN rule that applies to most extensions. Delivery starts as soon as the wait ends.
